A Long-Overdue Update

It’s been far too long since our last website update! SIG PIE has been active all along, but I’ve fallen behind on sharing our news here. If you’ve been checking in, my apologies for the long silence.

Over the past two years, we’ve continued meeting monthly to discuss a wide range of questions related to information ethics and policy, including teaching, philosophy, AI, intellectual freedom, and much more. Thank you to everyone who has kept these conversations going!

Next up is the ALISE 2026 Annual Conference, where we’ll have two back-to-back panels exploring academic freedom from ethics and policy perspectives. Both take place on Wednesday, November 18, in Room 101A:

  • Ethics panel “Breakout 7.1: Expressive Freedom & LIS Education” 9:00–10:15 AM
  • Policy panel “Breakout 8.1: Academic Freedom as Policy” 10:30–11:45 AM

Check out the 2026 ALISE Annual Conference: Schedule for more ALISE2026 information.

Please join us! The two sessions are part of a joint program, and we hope you’ll stay for the full conversation. We look forward to seeing you there!
